HWLoc on multi-core Opteron defect - how to tell NWChem to choose other MPI packages

Hello, installing openmpi on the AMD 24 core opteron system has failed repeatedly, and it is caused by this:

How can NWChem be installed without any use of MPI /MPICH at all, and use other free of charge software?
