I think that your environment has issues because you have leftovers from previous compilation attempts. I would try the following 1) rm $NWCHEM_TOP/lib/LINUX64/libnwpwlib.a 2) cd $NWCHEM_TOP/src/nwpw 3) make 4) cd .. 5) make link
